![]() ![]() Everywere we looked there were gorgeous photo opportunites. We did the loop, leaving the actual "canyon" for the last stretch. There was an entry fee to the park (I believe $8) but, it was good for the day at any of the state parks. Just realize that the 6 plus miles is winding, narrow, and will take quite sometime in itself. This was my 13 y/o daughters favorite of all we did in the area.Īs many have mentioned before the drive to the trailhead is a bit harrowing, but gorgeous in itself. We absolutely loved this hike! It's a truly unique experience that you won't get anywhere else. It wasn't deep, but definitely enough that your shoes will get quite wet. ![]() If you go earlier than that in the year, definitely bring shoes you can get wet even in a drought year. We went the week before Memorial Day and the wooden footbridges had just been set out. We walked out and back in the Canyon (instead of looping.) We had it almost to ourself in our walk out, but definitely saw that it was starting to fill up as we were heading back. I definitely recommend going earlier in the day if you want it to be a bit less busy. We probably could've gotten through, but we were happy to get in a bit of extra walking. They had recommended 4WD or bigger vehicles. However, we did park and then walk the 1 or 2 miles to get to the Canyon. We had a little honda fit and had no issue with this road. We were told by the gift store employee (there was no ranger in the visitor center at Prairie Creek State Park) that the road out to Gold Bluffs beach had recently been graded so it was in good condition. It's been very dry this year but still impressively green. Loved this canyon and can't even imagine how beautiful it is in winter after it's been raining a lot.
